The standard height of stair railings varies according to different environments and uses.
Standard for the height of residential stair railings
Indoor shared stair railing height: measured from the front edge of the step to the upper surface of the handrail should not be less than 0.9 meters. When the horizontal handrail is more than 0.5 meters long, its height should not be less than 1 meter.
Outdoor shared stair railing height: should not be less than 1.05 meters, and should not be less than 1.10 meters for medium and high-rise residential buildings.
Balcony railing height: the net height of balcony guardrails for low-rise and multi-story residential buildings should not be less than 1.05 meters, and the net height of balcony guardrails for medium and high-rise residential buildings should not be less than 1.10 meters.
Railing material selection
The materials of the railings can be iron, aluminum alloy or PVC. Iron is sturdy and durable but the style is older, aluminum alloy is rust-proof and lightweight, and PVC is environmentally friendly and has a variety of styles.
Functions and design requirements of railings
Separation and isolation: The basic function of railings is separation and isolation to ensure safety.

Height above the sky is less than 24 meters: The railing height should not be less than 1.05 meters.
Height above the sky is 24 meters and above: The railing height should not be less than 1.10 meters.
